Antenna repositioning and stow with a drive mismatch

ESV-S02-SOP-03 Ground station Simulation procedure

Rehearse controlled antenna movement to a stored demonstration pose and back to stow. Verify the axis-to-drive map, catch an incorrect command and preserve service-route clearance throughout the move.

Use this procedure to author and assess a controlled simulation with the Ground station model, version 3. This is a concept-model training exercise. It does not authorise real hardware work or establish flight qualification.

Before the exercise

Use an inert terminal and authored kinematic axes, group memberships, supported drive states, path checkpoints and stored stow pose. The scenario owner supplies the correct axis-to-drive mapping and movement envelope. The model does not establish real joint limits or actuator performance.

1 Load the accepted stow configuration

Model labels: skid, pedestal, azimuth, reflector

Select the fixed base, rotating structure and reflector. Save the accepted stow configuration and identify the intended demonstration target.

Check: A model revision or target-pose mismatch blocks movement preparation.

2 Define the controlled work envelope

Model labels: reflector, feed, brace_top, brace_left, brace_right

Identify the reflector and feed support envelope. Confirm the authored movement path and exclusion region are clear in the exercise.

Check: A learner must acknowledge the complete moving assembly rather than only the dish surface.

3 Check service route clearance

Model labels: conduit_upper, conduit_lower, conduit_aux, earth_lead

Compare the service routes and earth lead with their accepted starting positions and the supplied sweep envelope.

Check: An obstructing or unexplained loose route causes a hold before drive commands.

4 Read the axis and drive map

Model labels: azimuth, trunnion, drive_upper, drive_lower

Match each authored axis to the drive identified in the approved task map. State which group moves for the first commanded axis.

Check: Do not infer the axis assignment from the words upper and lower alone.

5 Reject the mismatched command

Model labels: drive_upper, drive_lower, azimuth

Present a command card that names the other drive for the requested axis. Place a hold and compare it with the approved map before enabling motion.

Check: Executing the mismatched command is a critical error even if the rendered movement appears plausible.

6 Accept the reviewed correction

Model labels: drive_upper, drive_lower, trunnion

Record the corrected drive identity and command intent. Release the hold only after the instruction and the approved axis map agree.

Check: The correction must preserve the original discrepancy for later handover.

7 Move the first axis to its checkpoint

Model labels: azimuth, pedestal, reflector

Move the complete bound group along the first reviewed axis to the intermediate checkpoint. Keep the pedestal and skid fixed.

Check: Crossing the declared envelope or moving the fixed base prevents progression.

8 Move the second axis to the target

Model labels: trunnion, yoke_left, yoke_right, reflector

Move the bound reflector and yoke group along the second authored axis. Stop at the stored demonstration target and capture both group poses.

Check: Assess the whole group and declared transforms; do not treat a detached reflector mesh as a successful move.

9 Hold and reconcile the target configuration

Model labels: feed, brace_apex, conduit_upper, conduit_lower

Check the feed support and service-route envelope at the target pose. Submit the specified geometric clearance views.

Check: Any simulated contact or route inconsistency holds the exercise at the target checkpoint.

10 Return along the reviewed path

Model labels: trunnion, azimuth, drive_upper, drive_lower

Return the second axis and then the first axis through their stored checkpoints. Use the corrected map rather than replaying the original wrong command.

Check: Skipping a required checkpoint or reversing the commanded order is an assessed error.

11 Restore the stow work state

Model labels: azimuth, reflector, conduit_aux, earth_lead

Compare the final poses and service routes with the saved stow baseline. Restore the explicit stow and disabled-drive teaching states.

Check: Real locks or switches are not inferred where separate model parts are absent.

12 Hand over the movement record

Model labels: drive_upper, drive_lower, reflector, cabinet

Submit the command discrepancy, correction, checkpoint poses, clearance evidence and final stow state to the reviewing engineer.

Check: Completion requires a resolved mismatch and reproducible return to the accepted stow configuration.

Assessment and completion

Score axis and group identification 20, envelope preparation 20, command-mismatch recovery 25, movement and return sequence 25 and handover 10. A wrong-drive command, crossed keep-out region or unreviewed final stow state prevents completion.

Authoring and headless handoff

Bind the actual azimuth, trunnion, yoke and reflector groups to explicitly authored demonstration axes. Keep the base fixed and record both position and orientation checkpoints. Use scenario state for drive enable and stow acknowledgement; do not invent physical locks, actuator telemetry or validated spacecraft pointing accuracy.

Reuse the exact GLB and component identifiers above. Verify the supported Genesis import and binding path; the current Creator scene driver can generate a different model. This document and its JSON describe authoring intent, not completed interactions. Preserve one model revision and record actual lesson, job and review identifiers during execution.
